Arts and Crafts Mahogany Mantel
An Arts and Crafts mantel c.1910 in Mahogany
originally from a large house near
Ripon racecourse in North Yorkshire. It was made by Garnett of Warrington,
a firm of well regarded cabinet makers that is a
striking example of their design and
manufacturing skills.
Where
ever you look on this mantel you'll see a
combination of subtle details and precision
craftsmanship.
The long tapering legs provide the basic
framework surmounted by a band of hand
carved, interlacing curves above which is a
cornice with fine dentil moulding. The
recessed frieze section is realised as a
colonnade with three arched panels to the
back with two tapering round columns to the
front and tapered relief columns to the
sides.
