We accept most major credit cards.

Delivery
We can arrange delivery to your door.
Post and packing to mainland UK is around £15
for up to 1 square yard of tiles ie. up to 10kg.
We can also handle large quantities up to a pallet load ie.250kg.

Delivery time is usually 1 working week for standard tiles
Other types and sizes may take longer.

We recommend that you always order at least one spare tile of each type
to cover for damage etc. as the next batch through the kilns could be a different shade.

Tile abbreviations
Plain tiles (PLN)
Tiles with one rounded edge (RE)
Tiles with two rounded edges for corners (REX)

More specialist tiles are round edged but not square
round edge on the long side (REL)
round edge on the short side (RES).

Note that the equivalent REX tiles will be “handed”
ie. The corner where the two round edges meet will be either at the top lefthand corner or the top righthand corner – they are not interchangeable in the same way as square tile REX.

Special sizes
We can make custom tiles to any size less than 6" x 6" by cutting and refiring the tiles. Refiring the tiles will cause the shade to change slightly and increases the natural variation in shading.
Price on application.

Tiles are cut using a wet cutter and a diamond wheel.
In cutting the tiles from a 6” tile the width of the saw blade (about 3mm or 0.125”) is lost so the tiles are just under 2” or 3” unless specifically asked to be exact sizes
add 50p per tile.

Our standard range of colours is:-
Burgundy
Midnight Blue
Victorian Blue
Basalt Black
Ivory
Victorian Brown
Teapot Brown
Victorian Green
Steele Green

Other tiles
Many other speciality tiles are used in our fireplaces for the openings and for kerbed hearths and fenders. In general these are individually hand cast in plaster moulds and glazed to match the colours of the standard tiles.

Standards
The materials and methods used to make fireplace tiles nowadays are similar to the original Victorian ones and a degree of shade variation is inevitable and desirable.

The tiles are manufactured to BS6431and are engineered to withstand heat. The thickness of the glaze means that a degree of crazing may occur. This does not affect the serviceability of the tiles.

Grouting
Some coloured grouts can stain the backing of the tiles and lead to discolouration under the glaze. If using a coloured grout we advise testing it first on a spare tile. If staining does occur the tiles will need to be sealed first using PVA or similar.

Fixing
When fixing the tiles any known brand of flexible tile adhesive can be used. It is as well to seal the back of the tiles first with a diluted PVA glue which will help to prevent crazing.

Fireplace tiles are special in that they are fired twice, once in biscuit and once glazed. These tiles are engineered to withstand heat but they will in general craze over time. Our Fireplace tiles are reproduced using similar methods to the original items and the degree of shade variation is inherent and desirable. Tiles are manufactured to bs6431 and are not guaranteed against crazing. Whilst most tiles do not normally craze, the thickness of glaze necessary to reproduce the very shiny Victorian tile colours may occasionally cause this to occur. It does not affect the serviceability and actually achieves a truer degree of reproduction effect. In certain conditions high gloss glazes are prone to discolouration and marking due to chemical attack from certain liquids including hard water. Victorian tile colours are easily scratched and should not be used in areas subject to abrasion.
