Hearth sizes
Originally most pre-war Fireplaces would have had hearths
laid flush with the wooden floor. In general they were about
48" wide and 18" deep. Current gas and solid fuel regulations
now stipulate that a 2"(50mm) raised hearth is required.

Our hearths can me made in large sizes so that
the Fireplace Mantel stands on it, small so that the Fireplace Mantel
stands on the floor or somewhere in between
(either the Fireplace Mantel or the hearth is cut out).
The standard sizes are small (39.5" x 16"in 4" tiles) and
large( 54"x15") in 6" tiles but they can be made in any size
or shape on request.

Our Tiled Fireplaces can be made in many sizes and colours.
The main colours we use are now shown on our tile colour page

20th Century Fires reserves the right to make minor design changes to the reproduction inserts or Fireplace Mantels shown on this site.

Our tiles are reproduced using similar methods to the original items and the degree of shade variation is inherent and desirable. Tiles are manufactured to bs6431 and are not guaranteed against crazing. Whilest most tiles do not normally craze, the thickness of glaze necessary to reproduce the very shiny Victorian colours may occasionally cause this to occur. It does not affect the serviceability and actually achieves a truer degree of reproduction effect.
