1950s Complete Tiled Fireplace
This tiled fireplace which dates from the early 1950s or late 1940s is more typical of a surviving
1920s or 1930s design.
The fireplace body is made in two shades of beige / brown mottled tiles. The stepped motifs and diamond patterns on the moulded blocks are redolent of the 20s and 30s.
The moulded blocks for the fireplace opening, the gentle arch over it and the front edge of the recessed central shelf all carry the indented diamond pattern. The stepped motif in the darker mottle frames either side of the fire recess and is reflected in two inverted patterns underneath the shelf.
The row of tiles above the shelf, the foot blocks and the front row of the three piece hearth are all rendered in the darker mottle forming a balanced framework for the whole fireplace.
