1930s Fireplace
An unusually proportioned 1930s fireplace made from large moulded blocks
glazed with a beige/brown mottle.
A darker brown
mottled glaze has been used for the fire opening and the raised section of
hearth immediately in front of the fire.
The sides of the fireplace opening are highlighted with purple
lustre glaze tiles typical of the manufacturers, Thynne of Hereford.
Given the large dimensions of the fireplace opening
(24 inches) and the thickness of the hearth, the fireplace was most likely intended to
have been wood burning only using a Devon fireback. It can be
adapted to suit any fuel or be used as a surround for a small firebasket
