1930s Tiled Fireplace
A large and finely detailed fireplace from the 1930's with
an angled corner hearth and wide steps for the feet of the fireback. The
intermediate step is curved and formed from half inch wide fingers.
The
fire opening is formed from large moulded blocks and recessed, the
recess being framed with narrowly ribbed, embossed tiles that echo the
thin sticks of the curved sides.
The whole design is executed in a
beige/brown mottled tile with two horizontal bands and the kerb of the
hearth in a darker, almost purple/brown mottle.
