Unusual 1950s Fireplace
An extraordinary stepped fireplace
made in 1957. The main body is
made from
rippled textured honey glaze
6 x 2 inch tiles. The canopy steps down
graduating
in 1" strips and the ledges
are faience blocks, wonderfully glazed
in streaky green. The push-to hearth
has a pair of massive hobs which curve
inwards and a raised kerb section
between them. There are two feature
tiles
6" sq of galleons
near the top of
the fireplace opening.
